HOLLYWOOD, CA – JANUARY 1: Picture dated from 1948 of legendary US actor, director, producer Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957) beside his wife U.S. actress Lauren Bacall. From 1936 to 1940 Bogart appeared in 28 films, usually as a gangster. 1941 was his landmark year, first in High Sierra and then as Sam Spade in The Maltese Falcon. They were followed by Casablanca (1942), The Big Sleep (1946) and Key Largo (1948). He formed his own production company in 1947 and made The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). “Boggey” received the Best Actor Academy Award for The African Queen (1951). He married Lauren Bacall in 1945 after their meeting in the film To Have or Have Not (1944) as she was just 19 years old. This not only set tone for a fabulous career, but also one of Hollywood’s greatest love stories. Bogart acted in 89 movies and Bacall 49. (Photo credit should read CORR/AFP/Getty Images)
